  1. When you go to Embryolisse’s website you can choose „mainland China – cross-border only” as your location. Is it possible for this company to remain cruelty-free if it sells cosmetics there?

    1. Hi there. Thanks for asking this!

I believe so. If they just make them available via an e-commerce site, then China shouldn’t require them to test those products on animals.

This is according to Humane Society International – they have a PDF FAQ in China & Cosmetics Animal Testing. In that document, you can see under What about e-commerce? that it says:

      > Pre- and post-market testing requirements do not apply to cosmetics ordered by customers via an ecommerce website if the website and fulfilment is outside of mainland China, and products posted direct to the customer in China. So, a cruelty-free company could sell products to Chinese customers via a website without concern for animal testing.

      I hope that helps.

  2. Hello,

    thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately Embryolisse is no longer cruelty-free. I contacted them after commenting on your post and it turned out they sell in mainland China. Although their products are available cross-border only and, thus, don’t need to be tested in a pre-market procedure, they are still capable of being tested in post-market testing. The brand confirmed it. Embryolisse is still counted in cruelty-free brands on your website. Please change it.

Best regards & stay healthy, Agata

Also could you provide us with a screenshot of the conversation, if possible?

It would be useful to provide solid proof of this, and we’ll modify the article then link it to this conversation.
